'Call of Duty: Ghosts' announced with trailer, releasing November 5

By
Call of Duty: Ghosts has been officially announced by Activision.

The upcoming Call of Duty sequel will be released on current and next-generation systems on November 5.

The announcement is accompanied by a trailer, which explores the use of masks throughout history.

According to the project's brand new Facebook page, the game will be demonstrated live at the next-generation Xbox unveiling on May 21.

Developed by Infinity Ward, Ghosts will take place in an all-new Call of Duty world, with a new story and characters.

Confirming earlier reports, the game will also be developed using a brand new next-generation game engine.

Describing the engine as a "leap forward" for the franchise, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said: "Infinity Ward set the gold standard for first-person action for a generation, and they're going to do it again with Call of Duty: Ghosts."

Meanwhile, Infinity Ward's Mark Rubin said that while people were expecting the studio to release Modern Warfare 4, the firm didn't want to rest on its laurels.

"We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we're building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players.

"We can't wait to share them with our community."
