'Monster Hunter Online' trailer teases powerful new menace

By
Monster Hunter Online has been given a new trailer by Capcom and Tencent.

Made up entirely of cutscene footage, the latest Monster Hunter Online video demonstrates the power of the CryEngine 3.

The video focuses on a battle between a team of hunters and a powerful monster, before teasing an even greater threat lurking in the swamps.

Unveiled last month, Monster Hunter Online is a joint effort between Capcom and Chinese online specialists Tencent. It will undergo a period of beta testing throughout China in June.

The game features new skills, weapons, moves and maps, as dragons and humans struggle to co-exist.

Gameplay will remain similar to previous Monster Hunter games, although as a PC title, it will also feature mouse and keyboard support.

There are currently no plans to release the game outside of China.

It's a follow-up to the recently released Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which is an expanded version of Wii role-playing adventure Monster Hunter Tri. It features cross-platform online play and progress sharing between the Wii U and 3DS versions.

The game went on to top the Wii U chart during its first week on sale, and was said to be partly responsible for an increase in console sales over Easter.
