Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina the "perfect person" for 'Dragon's Keep' DLC

By
Borderlands 2 writer Anthony Burch has revealed why Tiny Tina is the star of the latest DLC 'Assault on Dragon's Keep'.

Burch admitted he left it to others in the development team to suggest Tiny Tina, a character voiced by his sister Ashly Burch, to sidestep accusations of nepotism.

'Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep' will be released June 25.

Burch, who also runs a successful video series called Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin'? with his sibling, explained that he wanted to make sure Tina was being cast for the right reasons.

"Someone else said we should have Tina be the Dungeon Master - not me because she's my sister and I didn't want people to be like: NEPOTISM!" Burch told Digital Spy.

"I don't want to be a d**k about it. One of our audio designers suggested Tina do it because she is so wacky and goofy at times and other times she's like, 'I'm going to torture this guy to death because he murdered my parents' - she can get dark."

The balance between the light-hearted whimsy and the darker elements of the character allowed the team to craft a campaign where the slogan could easily have been 'expect the unexpected'.

"[The sound designer] had really good reasons - she's wild, she's zany," said creative director Paul Hellquist of the decision to make Tina the Dungeon Master.

"You want to do all these ideas where things can change on the fly or come out of nowhere and you want the DM to be not very good at it.

"Well she's young so maybe this is the first time she's run a game and if we want to pursue this fairytale thing she's the perfect person - she's still a little girl. She has stuffed animals and tea parties."

An added bonus to the casting, according to Burch, was his and Ash's shared sense of humour.

"She didn't co-write it or anything but I can write pretty much whatever and because we're so in sync she would be like, 'I know exactly how to do this'," he explained.

Borderlands 2 DLC 'Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep' will be available from June 25.
