'World of Warcraft' announces 'Virtual Realms' for patch 5.4

Blizzard has announced a new feature for the next World of Warcraft patch.

Some players have been raising concerns over the dwindling populations across numerous realms, suggesting realm merges to help aid the problem.

The MMORPG, which has lost 1.3 million subscribers this year, will release patch 5.4 later this year after testing on the Public Test Realms.

Blizzard wrote in the patch notes: "Virtual Realms are sets of realms that are fused together, and will behave exactly as if they were one cohesive realm.

"Players on the same Virtual Realm will be able to join guilds, access a single Auction House, join arena teams and raids, as well run dungeons or group up to complete quests."
