Project Spark will release on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows 8.

"The base experience itself is free-to-play," Persson told Digital Spy during a behind-closed-doors event at E3 2013.

"Everybody gets the base creator set. They start out with an initial set of assets, then there's stuff you can add on over time along the way."

Project Spark will also be cross-platform across Windows 8, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, with creations stored in a cloud to be downloaded and edited on another device.

It will support mouse, keyboard, touch and controllers on Windows 8, while Xbox One will offer added Kinect funtionality.

As for release, it is currently in closed beta on Windows 8, and will fully launch across platforms during Xbox One's "launch window", suggesting a release by early next year.

Project Spark allows players to build and modify environments and assign personality traits to objects in game to create enemies and objectives.

It was recently revealed that Xbox One will split Achievements into two, adding a challenges system.

Microsoft announced various changes to Xbox Live during its E3 conference earlier in the week, including abandoning Microsoft Points and dropping a friends list limit.
