Trade-in comparison site launches in UK

By
A new trade-in comparison website has launched in the UK.

Trade-in Detectives compares used video game trade and cash prices across numerous UK retailers.

The service is free, although customers must create an account to view the entire list of results.

The website checks trade-in and cash prices from retailers such as GAME, Amazon, Asda and CEX, and provides additional offers and deals.

GAME, for example, will better trade-in prices by £1 if the competing store is in a one-mile radius.

Speaking about the website's launch, co-founder Matt Precious urged publishers and platform holders to embrace the trade-in model.

"Publishers and format holders should use the retail trade-in model to their advantage. Think of customers of old games and consoles as a form of currency, to drive sales of new products," Precious is quoted by VG247 as saying.

"Our previous experience has taught us that customers who use the trade-in model at specialist stores, have a much higher average transaction frequency, that is more than double than those customers who do not."

Microsoft threatened to put a dent in the trade-in market with the release of the Xbox One, before reversing its used games measures.

Retailers such as GAME praised Microsoft's policy reversal, describing it as a "really positive" move.
