Microsoft reveals 'Halo 2' contains nudity

Regarded as one of the most important PC releases of the year, Microsoft has been forced to admit Halo 2 for Windows Vista will feature controversial 'partial nudity' after it made a mistake with the packaging.

Halo 2 was originally scheduled to go on sale May 18 in the UK, but the firm later realised it had not mentioned the adult content on the pack and was forced to delay the title while it added the warning label.

In a statement to Next Generation, Microsoft confirmed: “It has come to our attention that an unfortunate, obscure content error which includes partial nudity was included in our initial production of Halo 2 for Windows Vista.

“As such, we have updated the initial game packaging at retailers with a label, so customers are aware before purchasing the game. Additionally, we’ve developed an online update which can be downloaded from www.halo2.com to remove the content.

“At Microsoft we take the Entertainment Software Ratings Board guidelines very seriously and hold ourselves to high standards, with our customers always in mind.”

While the exact nature of the content is still to be revealed, the announcement will not go down too well with anti-game campaigners who were furious with the hidden adult content in Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Halo 2 for Windows Vista is out June 8.
