Sony once believed the UMD movie would become a huge success and help push the unit as an all-conquering media outlet, but with the reverse now true many dealers are slashing the prices in a bid to clear excess stock.
Online e-tailer Amazon is offering a three for £10 deal on its UMD films, including many recent titles such as Superman Returns, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Dukes of Hazzard, Corpse Bride, Oceans Eleven and The Matrix Trilogy.
And UMD movies not in the deal can still be picked up at low cost, with titles as Monty Python's Holy Grail selling for under £5.
