Developer to shake-up first-person genre

Electronic Arts studio DICE has confirmed it is developing a first-person action game, complete with "innovative" gameplay.

DICE, famed for the Battlefield series, is developing the experimental Mirror's Edge for next-generation consoles.

The title, which has been long-expected following EA's acquistion of DICE last year, is believed to be a result of EA applying pressure to its studios to develop new franchises.

A DICE spokesman said: "At this time, we are not revealing anything more than the fact that we are changing the way that players are able to move in first person."

Discussing the way the game will play, an EA representative said: "No more restrictions, no more being blocked by simple barriers such as walls and fences. We want to enable the player to move like a real person, with the ability to run, jump, vault and slide in a way that has never been seen before in a first-person game."
