Following comments by the Project Gotham Racing 4 developer Bizzare Creations, which revealed that its team had problems fitting the game on a single Xbox 360 DVD, Sony has stated that it's the perfect example why including Blu-ray within its PlayStation 3 console is justified.
"We took a lot of heat at launch for including Blu-ray in PS3. Now it looks like that investment is being justified," said SCEA spokesman Dave Karraker, speaking to Gi.biz.
"Next generation games simply need more space on the disc to contain all that high definition content. Take a look at Lair, for example, already pushing 25GB of content, and that is a first-generation title. At 50GB storage capacity, Blu-ray gives the PS3 plenty of headroom for developers to fully realize their visions well into the future."
Developer Bizarre Creations announced on its forums that gamers playing Project Gotham Racing 4 on the Xbox 360, which is released next month, would not be able to see different times of day in each racing location due to the limitations of fitting the game onto a single DVD.
