iPhone to take on Nintendo DS
US giant Apple has secret plans to create a real competitor to the Nintendo DS after plots to move its iPhone into the portable videogame world were revealed.

A report in the New York Post claims "Apple has been secretly plotting its foray into portable video games for months, looking to add games to its hot iPhone."

Appleinsider.com's EIC Kasper Jade added: "I was told that a major game developer was seeded with iPhone [technology] quite some time ago."

The story also added that Apple TV has game functionality built in and the firm is also looking at adding games to its portfolio.

Apple is no stranger to videogames, with the iPod capable of running a limited number of titles. Indeed, games from EA, PopCap and Apple itself have been available since launch.

EA and others are now expected to jump on the iPhone in the hope of capturing Apple's ever increasing market share.
