A report by Japanese economics resource Nikkei Net Kansai has revealed the Nintendo Wii has overtaken the Xbox 360 to become the world's biggest-selling games console.
By the end of July, the Wii had sold 9.02 million units across Japan, America and Germany, outdoing Microsoft Xbox 360 sales of 8.8 million during the same period despite launching a year later.
The Sony PlayStation 3, which was launched in the US and Japan within a few days of the Wii, has only sold 3.7 million units during the same timeframe.
According to the report, two thirds of 360 sales have been in America, with Japan still failing to meet expectations. The Wii, however, has sold well across all countries despite not being as technically advanced as its two main rivals.
