PS3 to sell more games than Wii?

American-based analyst group DFC Intelligence has released a report forecasting that the worldwide videogame industry will grow by as much as $47 billion dollars by 2009.
Currently, the industry is said to be worth around $33 billion dollars but DFC predicts much of the growth will come from online game revenue, advertising and digital subscriptions as well as the handheld gaming market.
“Revenue from portable game software has more than doubled in recent years and we think that the Nintendo DS could eventually become the best-selling game system ever in five years,” said DFC analyst David Cole.
In terms of individual console performance, the group expects PlayStation 3 to sell more software by 2012 than the Wii. “We could have a situation where the Wii sells more hardware units, but by 2012 the PlayStation 3 is generating more software revenue,” said Cole.
But as for the Xbox 360, Cole added: "It will need to build a strong base outside North America to avoid being in a fairly distant third."
