Games chart creator ChartTrack has confirmed that PlayStation 3 has seen a surge in hardware sales since Sony lowered the price of the 60Gb model and launched a cheaper 40Gb edition of the system.
Following the release of the 40Gb PS3 and the reduction in price of the 60Gb console, week-on-week sales have risen by 178%.
ChartTrack also confirmed that the week was the third biggest for the PS3 ever, beaten only by the system's first two weeks on sale last March.
PlayStation 3 software sales also surged, with Resistance: Fall of Man up from 22 to 8 and Heavenly Sword climbing to 14, while MotorStorm rose from 23 to 18.
