'Wii Sports' cleans up at the BAFTAs

Nintendo's Wii Sports has picked up no fewer than 6 out of 13 possible gongs at this year's British Academy Video Games Awards, which were held in London last night.

Described by the panel as having "the ability to captivate and engage a user's attention and provide a compelling experience", its winning categories included best sports game, strategy and simulation, gameplay and innovation.

The main award of the night, however, went to the critically-acclaimed Xbox 360 and PC release, Take-Two's Bioshock, which was named the best game of the year.

Crackdown picked up two gongs on the Xbox 360, while PlayStation 2 title Okami also won an award. But the loser of the night was PlayStation 3 which, despite receiving a few nominations, went on to win no awards.

PC game Football Manager 2007 won The Gamers' Award, the only one to be chosen by the public, while Will Wright, creator of The Sims, was awarded a BAFTA fellowship in recognition of more than 20 years' work in the industry.
