'Need for Speed' tops the latest games chart
The latest racing game from Electronic Arts has accelerated to the top of the all-formats games chart, knocking the acclaimed Assassin's Creed off the top.

Need for Speed: Prostreet is currently the bookies' favourite to become this year's Christmas number one, with Chart Track adding that "for the past four years every game that was number one in the all-formats games chart at this point remained number one up until Christmas."

Bestseller Assassin's Creed tumbled from last week's number one to this week's sixth position, while Guitar Hero III fell out of the top 10 after just two weeks on sale.

Although great things were expected of Capcom's Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, the title has debuted at a rather disappointing number 28 in the charts.

Risers this week included Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, jumping from last week's 14 to this week's number seven after recording the largest sales week of any individual Wii game.

Sales of The Simpsons rose 27% in the past week, while the ever popular Brain Training titles on the DS continued to fly high in the top 10.

But the highest climber this week is FIFA 08, after sales increased by 38% across all formats as the game went from last week's number nine to this week's fourth position.

The top ten games in full:

1. (2) Need for Speed: Pro Street (EA)
