The acclaimed multi-format title, which is currently sitting at number three in the all-formats games chart, broke the milestone figure after just nine weeks on sale.
An EA spokesman told DS: "FIFA 08 has just become the first video game this year to sell a million units at retail. Despite all the doom and gloom surrounding English football, it appears the popularity of FIFA is on the increase."
Gary Booker, UK marketing director at EA, added: "We hit 1m units this week (after 9 weeks), which was faster selling than the 07 version and a fantastic achievement for the franchise. There has also been a good swing to FIFA on next-gen consoles and we are ahead of the our biggest competitor.”
