Sony: 'PS3 sells 200,000 a week in Europe'
Sony's chief executive Howard Stringer has said he is upbeat about the recent spike in PlayStation 3 sales, claiming that 200,000 consoles are being sold in Europe each week.

Speaking to CNBC, Stringer said the company's recent cost-cutting reforms have allowed them to "bring back some of the wow factor that is the Sony trademark”.

He also added that the PlayStation Network is one of a number of products, along with its new OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) TVs and Rolly music player, that "prove Sony is once again wowing the global technology market".

In the past, Sony has been criticised for not making full use of the properties owned by its various divisions, but Stringer announced he plans to change this with "the Spider-Man movies and singers such as Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé Knowles".
