With many predicting the end of the high-definition format war is near, Microsoft has announced it is slashing $50 dollars off the price of its Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on in North America.
The HD-DVD add-on now costs just $129.99 in the US, which is equal to £65 in Britain. For now, however, the official price remains £114.99 in the UK, though many outlets are now selling the device for under £100.
A similar UK price drop is rumoured, but Microsoft has yet to make an official announcement, though it has confirmed gamers in Australia, New Zealand and Canada can expect discounts to appear soon.
The news comes as both the gaming and movie industries expect Blu-ray to win the race to become the number one high-definition format.
