Apple and Disney Online have launched a new action adventure game based on Pirates of the Caribbean for the iPod.

Entitled Pirates of the Caribbean: Aegir's Fire the game, available on iTunes, puts the player at the helm of the Bleak Pearl ship, sailing the seas in search of treasure.

More than 30 missions are promised, as players use the touch-wheel to navigate while sinking rival ships, battling sea monsters and avoiding the Royal Navy.

The adventure will also allow players to unlock new characters, taken from the movie, to add to their crew, each boasting their own special abilities.

The game, which comes just after Microsoft announced plans to release games for its Zune MP3 player, is available for the third generation iPod nano, the fifth generation iPod and the iPod classic platforms.
