Production company sues over zombie game

The production company that owns the rights to zombie movie Dawn of the Dead has sued Japanese games firm Capcom for copyright infringement.
MKR Group filed a lawsuit in New York claiming that Capcom's game Dead Rising was too similar to George Romero's 1978 film.
It highlighted the use of "thoughtful social commentary on the 'mall culture' zeitgeist" as well as "a sizeable portion of sensationalistic violence" in both the movie and game.
Capcom had previously filed a complaint against MKR urging the company to agree that Dead Rising was sufficiently different from the film to avoid infringement. It claimed that "humans battling zombies in a shopping mall" was a "wholly unprotectable idea".
The game sold more than a million units in the five months following its release on Xbox 360 in August 2006.
Diary of the Dead, the fifth film in Romero's zombie franchise, hits cinemas in the UK on March 7.
