Newly formed team developing 'BioShock 2'
A follow-up to last year's critically acclaimed BioShock game is being developed by a different team, publisher Take2 has announced.

While the first game was created by 2K Boston, BioShock 2 is being worked on by 2K Marin.

The new team, which was founded by some of the former members of 2K Boston, is located in California and was originally put together to create new, original titles for various platforms.

"We're focused on continuing to bring new brands and cutting-edge gameplay to market with the creation of the 2K Marin studio. 2K Marin will build upon our success in creating and leveraging triple-A franchises," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

Many members of the BioShock 2K Boston team are rumoured to be developing a separate new game for Take2 using Epic's Unreal Engine.

The original BioShock has now sold over 1.5 million copies and won numerous awards, including Best Xbox 360 Game at the 2007 Leipzig Games Convention.

BioShock 2 is scheduled for release towards the end of 2009.
