The title sold more than 874,000 copies on its launch day (March 9), selling at a rate of more than 120 per minute between its release and March 16.
"Super Smash Bros. Brawl has made the leap from video game to cultural phenomenon," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing.
"Game reviewers and the public alike praise its fun game play and extensive, inventive content."
The game, which features battles between classic Nintendo characters such as Mario and Pikachu, also stars other industry mascots including Sonic the Hedgehog and Metal Gear Solid hero Solid Snake.
A UK release date for Super Smash Bros. Brawl has yet to be announced.
