EA: No online songs for Wii 'Rock Band'
Developer Harmonix and publisher Electronic Arts have revealed the newly-announced Wii edition of its Rock Band game will not offer online multiplay or the ability to download further songs.

A statement from the game's creators read: "The Wii version still contains the robust four-player band experience and all the fun at the core of other versions of Rock Band.

"However, because the Wii's online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realised, we wanted to wait before we explored online functionality for Rock Band to ensure that players get the high quality of online performance they've come to expect."

The news will come as a disappointment to Wii users, who have been waiting many months to hear whether EA would release the game at all on the format.

The Wii edition, which will feature 63 songs and five bonus tracks, will also come bundled with drums, microphone and a wireless guitar.

Rock Band will be released in May on PS3 and Xbox 360, but a UK launch date for the Wii edition is yet to be announced.
