Crytek ditches PC exclusives over piracy

'Crysis'

Cevat Yerli, president of German video game developer Crytek, has revealed the company will no longer develop games exclusively for the PC.

Yerli told PC Play magazine that piracy figures for their recent first-person shooter Crysis prompted the move.

He said: "We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that's the core problem of PC gaming - piracy."

Yerli also expressed his annoyance at gamers who bootleg PC games, saying they "inherently destroy the platform".

Yerli added: "Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4 to 5 or more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we won't have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in the future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusively anymore."
