'GTA IV' takes £39 million in first week
Rockstar's epic Grand Theft Auto IV has broken all previous records after Chart Track revealed that the title has taken more than £39 million at retail during its first week on sale.

The 18-rated game sold more than 926,000 copies during its first five days on sale, combining both Xbox 360 and PS3 figures.

A total of 55% of all copies sold were on Microsoft's Xbox 360 console, while the game's release also increased hardware sales of both platforms. Xbox 360 console sales rose by 125% during the game's launch week and Sony's PS3 jumped an impressive 127%.

Sales and revenue from the game have topped the previous record holder Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which shifted 677,000 copies in its first week and made £24.2 million at retail.
