Nintendo WiiWare launches today

'Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles'

Users of the Nintendo Wii will soon be able to enjoy their very own version of Microsoft's Xbox Live when Nintendo launches WiiWare in the US today.

The new digital distribution service, which launches in the UK on May 20, will offer six games for download at launch with one new title added every Monday thereafter.

The games can be bought via the WiiWare section of the Wii Shop Channel using Wii Points, available via the Wii Shop Channel or selected retailers.

After playing a downloaded game, users will be asked to provide a review score for the title, with Nintendo planning to tally the scores and publish the results on an ongoing basis.

The full lineup of WiiWare downloadable launch games:
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Publisher: Square Enix; Cost: 1,500 Wii Points)
  • TV Show King (Publisher: Gameloft; Cost: 1,000 Wii Points)
  • LostWinds (Publisher: Frontier Developments; Cost: 1,000 Wii Points)
  • Pop (Publisher: Nnooo; Cost: 700 Wii Points)
  • Defend your Castle (Publisher: XGen Studios; Cost: 500 Wii Points)
