Japanese games publisher Konami has announced details of the online elements in its forthcoming New International Track And Field game, claiming the title boasts "an absolute first for any DS title".
Describing the online section as "stunning", Konami revealed the game will allow up to four players anywhere in the world to compete simultaneously.
In a statement, the firm revealed: "Players in Europe, Japan, Korea and the US can find each other in lobby areas, and take each other on in real time – an absolute first for any DS title."
In addition, New International Track And Field will utilise the DS Wi-Fi connection, allowing players to link into a server that constantly updates the World Records as and when they are broken.
Global high scores and world rankings can be instantly logged, while players will be kept updated via an 'innovative' News Feed service.
The game, which celebrates 25 years of the arcade classic, will make use of the DS touch-screen and stylus across 24 events such as pole vaulting, skeet shooting, high jump, 100m sprint and more.
New International Track And Field will be released on June 20.
