Gay Spy's guide to the week ahead

Published Monday, Aug 13 2007, 12:56 BST | By Nick Levine
“Looking for some affirmation, I made my way into the night,” George Michael once revealed. “My friends got their ladies, they’re all having babies, but I just wanna have some fun.” Amen to that - we all deserve a good time every now and again. But what if you don’t know which pleasure-filled avenues to explore? Well, you’re in luck, because Gay Spy has compiled a seven-day entertainment guide just for you. And worry not - none of our suggestions involve diving into bushes at a certain recreational open space in north London.

Monday

What’s happening? Sophie Ellis-Bextor releases 'Today The Sun's On Us' on CD single and download.

Why should you care? This guitar ballad is the posh popstrel’s most touching single yet. Soph says it’s about “giving yourself permission to enjoy things when the going is good, despite the fact you know the good may not last forever". Bless.

Tuesday

What’s happening? Pink plays London's Brixton Academy.

Why should you care? The ballsy belter - and dyed-in-the-wool dyke icon - always puts on a great show.

Wednesday

What’s happening? Channel 4 serves up a double bill of Will & Grace at 11pm.

Why should you care? Well, don't you want to see if there's life in the old dog pampered pink poodle yet?

Thursday

What’s happening? Channel 4 presents a 10 Years Younger summer special at 8pm.

Why should you care? This makeover show offers more gasps than a sex video starring your parents. Plus, it’s always fun trying to work out whether Nicky Hambleton-Jones, the show's glacial host, is entirely human.

Friday

What’s happening? Star Stories lampoons the life and times of Britney Spears, airing at 9pm on Channel 4.

Why should you care? Last week’s episode, which sent up the career of Simon Cowell, was comedy gold. We can’t wait to see how they parody the scandalicious exploits of pop's most lovable baldie.

Saturday

What’s happening? Darren Hayes plays London's G-A-Y nightclub.

Why should you care? You might get a sneak preview of This Delicate Thing We’ve Made, the Savage Garden star’s new LP, which runs to a whopping 25 songs.

Sunday

What’s happening? V Festival - the two-pronged pop extravaganza held at Hylands Park, Essex and Weston Park, Staffordshire - reaches its climax.

Why should you care? The line-up includes The Killers, Lily Allen. Amy Winehouse, Basement Jaxx and Pink. Need we go on?
