Gay Spy's guide to the week ahead

Published Monday, Aug 20 2007, 12:39 BST | By Nick Levine
The Love Shack, the B-52’s once told us, is a little old place where we can together. Hmm. That’s all and well and good, but what if you live on a completely different continent to pop’s most hedonistic hut? What will you do then? Well, someone upstairs is smiling at you, because Gay Spy has compiled a week of fun and frolics just for you. And don’t feel bad about snubbing the Love Shack – it burned down a few years back, anyway.

Monday

What’s happening? Darren Hayes releases This Delicate Thing We’ve Made on CD and download.

Why should you care? The Savage Garden star’s new LP, a 25-track electro opus, is the year's most audacious pop album.

Tuesday

What’s happening? London’s Funland offers a night of ten pin bowling for gay men and women.

Why should you care? Well, don't you want to improve your, ahem, strike rate?

Wednesday

What’s happening? Living introduces us to the Dirty Cows at 9pm.

Why should you care? Ten city chicks compete for the heart of a lonely Cornish farmer on this new reality show. It's TV Lambrini – not very classy, but lots of fun.

Thursday

What’s happening? Channel 4 invites us to the Sex Change Hospital at 10.30pm.

Why should you care? This six-part documentary series presents a (genital) warts and all view of gender reassignment surgery. Our advice? Eat your dinner as early as possible tonight.

Friday

What’s happening? The Gossip take to the stage at the Reading festival.

Why should you care? Beth Ditto’s live performances are sexier than fondling your unmentionables during a Sunday morning lie-in.

Saturday

What’s happening? The X Factor hits its stride at 7.40pm on ITV1.

Why should you care? Will Dermot be better than Kate? Will Dannii be much cop? Will Louis exact revenge on Simon? So many questions – but there’s only one place to find the answers.

Sunday

What’s happening? Manchester’s Cornerhouse Arts Centre screens The Wizard of Oz as part of the city’s Pride celebrations.

Why should you care? However many times you watch it, this technicolor classic never loses its sugary charm.
