Gay Spy's guide to the week ahead

Published Monday, Nov 5 2007, 16:56 GMT | By Nick Levine
"I'm sitting here eating my heart out, waiting for some lover to call," Donna Summer once complained. "Dialed about a thousand numbers lately - I almost rang the phone off the wall." Donna, darling, we know what it's like to feel a tad pent up, but you can't let your frustration take over your life. It's time to put the phone down; forget about the things "some lover" can do for you, and use Gay Spy's seven-day entertainment guide to make your own fun. Hot stuff? Honest to God, it's positively sizzling.

Monday

What's happening? McFly release their Greatest Hits album on CD and download.

Why should you care? After Danny set fire to his little brown curlies in a bid to titillate the G-A-Y crowd, it's only polite that you treat yourselves to the phwoarsome foursome's singles collection.

Tuesday

What's happening? Enrique Iglesias begins a five-date UK tour at Belfast's Odyssey Arena.

Why should you care? The Latin Lothario doesn't fill his denim hipsters quite as well as we'd like, but his stage show should still get your fists pumping ( 'Bailamos'), your toes tapping ('Escape') and your eyes streaming like you've just watched the end of Beaches ('Hero').

Wednesday

What's happening? Living examines life To The Manor Bowen at 8pm.

Why should you care? This reality series follows Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and family - yes, he really does have a wife and kids - as they swap city living for a stay in a 17th century Gloucestershire mansion. We can't wait to see foppish Laurence walking the dorgs in his Barbour and wellies.

Thursday

What's happening? E4 reveals what it's like to be Nearly Famous at 11pm.

Why should you care? DS' TV treats guru reckons it isn't quite as titillating as Skins, but E4's new teen drama series should still make entertaining viewing. Plus, the male lead - Aaron Johnson, actors' names fans - isn't exactly a chore to look at.

Friday

What's happening? Elizabeth: The Golden Age opens in the nation's cinemas.

Why should you care? With its opulent costumes, ravishing production values and a smouldering turn from Clive Owen, the sequel to 1998's Elizabeth is a real treat for the eyes. And, indeed, the loins.

Saturday

What's happening? ITV1 invites us to The Kylie Show at 9.35pm.

Why should you care? The little Aussie pop-rocket will perform a smattering of her classic hits alongside songs from her forthcoming X LP on this -sob! - one-off primetime special. ITV1 promises "lavish production values normally reserved for stadium concerts", so expect more glitter, shimmer and sparkle than Elton John's Christmas decorations.

Sunday

What's happening? The London Raiders, the capital's only gay and lesbian softball team, host their weekly training session on Clapham Common.

Why should you care? We'd never be so crass as to make a joke about ball skills, but that's pretty much where our self-restraint ends. With that in mind, we're sure the Raiders will have something to teach you about the rubber, the pitcher's circle and, of course, getting to fourth base.
