Highlights from yesterday's session with BBC One controller Peter Fincham:

  • Interviewing was the highly irritating Nicky Campbell of Watchdog
  • Commenting on the transfer of The Apprentice to BBC One: "I feel very confident it will stand up on One. I don't believe [we] can sit out of the reality boom. There's no barrier to reality on BBC One... but you choose [the shows] very carefully."
  • Fincham said there were "no plans" to follow ITV1's lead and ditch kids programming from the channel, but added: "In the long term, who knows?"
  • On the performance of The One Show: "Early indications are encouraging. We will not go down the road of fighting soap with soap. We need to come up with something distinctive [at 7pm]."
  • A special mention to his attire, which comprised a full suit together with black trainers.
