Appearing on the channel shortly after 1pm, Rivers was asked by presenter Jackie Brambles if she had enjoyed meeting and greeting celebrities on the red carpet. Rivers replied:
"When they're nice. You get someone like Russell Crowe and you want to say to the camera he is a piece of - get ready to bleep this! - f**king s**t".
Amid gasps and laughter from the studio audience, Rivers cautioned: "I did say get ready to bleep!"
Brambles immediately said: "We do apologise. Joan wasn't aware that we were absolutely live, we do apologise."
Shortly thereafter, the programme went to a commercial break and Rivers had disappeared from the panel.
An ITV spokesperson explained: "Presenter Jackie Brambles immediately apologised to viewers and reiterated this apology later in the show. An editorial decision was taken that Joan Rivers should not appear in the final part of the programme. Loose Women guests are always briefed that it is a live daytime show and as such are reminded not to swear or use inappropriate language."
