BBC London appoint new chief

BBC London has appointed a former BBC national news editor to oversee all television, radio and online output from the region.

Mike MacFarlane, formerly editor of all BBC TV weekend news bulletins and radio election coverage, has been installed as BBC London's new executive editor in place of Jane Mote, who left to become controller of the Community Channel.

Aside from BBC London News bulletins and the London website, McFarlane will also take control of BBC London 94.9FM, which enjoyed a year-on-year rise of 124,000 listeners in last week's Rajar figures.

"I'm delighted to be joining BBC London - particularly with [newsreader] Emily Maitlis and her team in top form and BBC London 94.9 FM's spectacular listening figures announced last week," McFarlane commented.
