The Radio Authority have awarded Ivel FM with the new eight-year FM licence for Yeovil after reviewing four applications for the service.
Ivel FM, which is aiming to launch by the end of the year, has promised to provide a locally involved service to a target audience of 25-64 year olds, featuring news, information and conversation relevant to Yeovil and the surrounds, as well as music from the last forty years.
The station is backed by local radio operator Radio Investments Limited, with a launch team featuring Vale FM manager James Richards, former Orchard FM executive Christine Halgh, Yeovil Town football club chairman John Fry and local retailer Alan Newberry.
"We want to thank all the local people who supported our application, we couldn't have achieved this without their help. We found a great demand for a station just tailored to the needs of Yeovil and the surrounding areas and we now have the opportunity to bring that idea to life. Now we are looking forward to the exciting challenge of getting ready to go live before the end of this year," said Clive Brown, Yeovil accountant and chairman of Ivel FM.
The Authority has also renewed eight-year licences for Crawley and Reigate station 102.7 Mercury FM, owned by GWR, and The Wireless Group-owned AM station Valley Radio, which serves South Wales.
