The project, provisionally titled Street Of Dreams, is a joint project with renowned design firm Urban Splash, which has already picked the designers in a competition.
Six homes were given planning permission in April and programme makers will follow progress over two years along with Urban Splash chief executive Tom Bloxham.
Lisa Edwards, executive producer at BBC Two, said: "Street Of Dreams has ambitious design and real human stories at its heart and gives us an insight into the exciting regeneration that is happening in Manchester and cities across Britain."
