The nominations for the 2003 Sony Radio Academy awards have been announced, recognising the contributions of the biggest stars in British Radio.
Stephen Fry led the way with three nominations for his Classic FM show The Incomplete and Utter History of Classical Music, with Xfm breakfast host Christian O'Connell and Radio 2's Jonathan Ross receiving two.
Ross will go up against Fry and fellow comedian Ricky Gervais for the coveted Entertainment Award, while Radio 2's Terry Wogan will face challenges from Xfm, Radio City Liverpool, Newcastle's Metro Radio and 2CR Bournemouth for the Breakfast Music Award.
Additionally, a third of the nominations have gone to local stations, following an upsurge in the production of creative programmes concerning local topics.
The 28 awards - including the Sony Outstanding Contribution Gold Award - will be decided at the main Sony Awards ceremony, to be held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Thursday 8 May.
