An original series based on the book, which provoked outcry with themes such as incest, aired on ITV in the 1970s.
Prime Suspect writer Guy Andrews is now working on a newly adapted script with producer Mammoth Screen, which is also making the upcoming revival of The Prisoner.
"The original TV version of Bouquet Of Barbed Wire was one of the most talked about and controversial shows of the 1970s, busting taboos which still have the power to shock many years later," said Mammoth's joint managing director Damien Timmer.
"Guy Andrews will bring a thrilling modern sensibility to Andrea Newman's timeless tale of obsessive love and we hope a modern audience will be as gripped as viewers were 30 years ago."
