SMG outlines "Scottish Gold" channel plans

SMG chief executive Rob Woodward has said he plans to launch a "best-of" television channel for Scotland in partnership with the BBC.
Speaking at the British Press Guild yesterday, Woodward proposed that the "Scottish Gold" channel be funded in a manner similar to BBC Gaelic, which will be operated by the BBC in partnership with the publicly-funded Gaelic Media Service.
Its programming lineup would include the best of BBC Scotland and STV's output plus original news and current affairs programming.
"There is strong consumer demand for a dedicated Scottish channel," said Woodward, who hopes to launch the channel on digital terrestrial television. However, BBC Gaelic will itself not be available on the platform until after the competition of digital switchover.
