UKTV to rebrand factual channels in 2009

UKTV has restructured its channel leadership team ahead of a rebrand of all its factual channels next year.

Its entertainment channels will be rebranded on October 7, with UKTV Gold +1 turning into Watch and UKTV Drama becoming Alibi.

UKTV's factual channels will relaunch in "early 2009", the broadcaster - a joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Virgin Media Television - confirmed today.

"As part of our commitment to Pay TV, we’re developing exciting and distinctive channel brands that will wow our audiences and open up new commercial opportunities," explained UKTV's director of lifestyle, factual and new media, Jane Mote.

Mote said that Adrian Wills will become channel head of UKTV People, in addition to his existing responsibility for UKTV Documentary, while Richard Kingsbury will become channel head of UKTV History in addition to UKTV Food.

"Both Adrian and Richard are hugely talented and their wealth of experience will ensure the success of these channels going forward," she added.
