Shelagh Fogarty has been confirmed by the BBC as the new co-host of the breakfast show on Radio Five Live. She will present the show with Nicky Campbell.
She will begin presenting on weekday breakfast from the New Year, replacing Victoria Derbyshire, who will be going on maternity leave before returning in the summer to host the mid-morning show.
Shelagh, who can currently be heard on the station's weekend breakfast show, said:
"I am delighted to be taking over on breakfast which is an institution on Five Live. It's a massive programme and a great opportunity and I can't wait to start."
Radio Five Live's controller, Bob Shennan, said:
"Shelagh is already a much loved character on the station and is the ideal person to step up to Breakfast where she will complement Nicky perfectly.
"Breakfast will be a crucial element of a great year of sport next year with Euro 2004 and the Olympics, and I'm delighted to have Shelagh in place for that."
