The controller of BBC entertainment commissioning takes over from 2008 chair Andrew Mackenzie in the role. Her primary responsibility is the editorial direction of the Festival programme, which includes commissioning and producing around 60 sessions.
"I'm very pleased to have been invited to chair next year's Festival," said Bedell, who oversees programmes such as Strictly Come Dancing, Top Gear and The Apprentice. "Andrew Mackenzie produced a great, feel-good Festival this year, and I am looking forward to working with the committee to create some equally compelling and entertaining sessions next year."
