Selina Scott to sue Five over ageism
Published Tuesday, Sep 2 2008, 10:38 BST | By James Welsh
Veteran newsreader Selina Scott is to sue Five over an allegation that the channel discriminated against her on the basis of age.
Reports indicate that Scott, 57, will claim that Five agreed that she would cover for Natasha Kaplinsky when she goes on maternity leave before reneging on the agreement in favour of hiring Isla Traquair and Matt Barbet, aged 28 and 32 respectively.
It is understood that Five's director of programmes Ben Gale has been named in a complaint made to the London Employment Service.
"We do not accept this claim and will be vigorously defending it," a Five spokesperson said.
