The BBC has renewed its deal with the Royal Horticultural Society to screen its major flower shows until 2013.
The summer events at Malvern Spring, Chelsea, Hampton Court and Tatton Park are included in the five-year deal. Other broadcasters will have non-exclusive access to the shows and other RHS activities for short news items or longer feature pieces, and the deal does not encompass international or DVD rights.
"From coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show to the enduring Gardeners' World which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, this partnership has produced a range of programmes and online coverage to satisfy every passion and interest in gardening," said George Entwistle, controller of BBC Knowledge commissioning. "We're pleased to be able to continue our successful relationship with the RHS to bring the best gardening content to our audiences."
RHS director general Inga Grimsey praised the BBC for delivering "impressive coverage of our shows over the past eight years, helping us to inspire and inform millions of people".
