Gaydio wins Manchester FM licence

Gaydio has been awarded a five-year FM radio licence to broadcast a station aimed at Manchester's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

Prior to the award, the station had run four short-term broadcasts in the area. It will now broadcast a full-time service on FM and across the UK online.

"Everybody involved with Gaydio has worked so hard to get to this point," said programme controller Toby Whitehouse. "We are extremely happy that Ofcom have decided to award us a licence. Manchester’s thriving LGBT community is so deserving of a full time station to serve it. I can’t wait to get us back on air… for good."

Whitehouse said that although a launch date has yet to be set, "the whole team is itching to launch the station full time and provide a fantastic listen all year round".
