Vine, who celebrated his birthday on January 3, died from a heart attack at his home near Henley-on-Thames on Sunday.
His publicist Paul Madeley described him as "a true and utter gentleman at all times".
Match Of The Day, A Question Of Sport, Ski Sunday, and Sportscene were among the shows Vine hosted.
He also introduced coverage of the Olympics, Wimbledon, the World Snooker Championships, 1975's Miss World and 1974's Eurovision Song Contest.
Vine was famously the first presenter to present coverage of Wimbledon in colour in 1967. He retired from broadcasting in 2000, after covering weightlifting at the Sydney Olympics.
Following his retirement he continued to work on a consultancy basis for the BBC.
