Ex-5 Live chief Shennan to run Radio 2

The BBC has appointed former Radio 5 Live controller Bob Shennan controller of Radio 2 and 6 Music.

Shennan, who ran the BBC's rolling news and sport radio service from 2000 to 2008, left the corporation to become Channel 4's director of radio last April; however, the channel shuttered its digital radio plans in October citing financial pressures.

"Radio 2 is the cornerstone of UK Radio," said Shennan. "6 Music is at the forefront of digital radio. It is a privilege to be asked to lead the extraordinary creative forces of both stations."

Former Radio 2 controller Lesley Douglas resigned in October after the now-infamous programme in which Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross left lewd messages on the voicemail of Fawlty Towers' Andrew Sachs aired on the station.
