Moyles nominated for top radio award

Chris Moyles has been nominated for a radio award just days after he was warned about his on-air behaviour.

The Radio One DJ has been named in the breakfast show category at the Sony Radio Academy Awards.

Last week, Moyles was deemed to have breached broadcasting guidelines by mocking Will Young in a high-pitched, effeminate voice. Ofcom said that listeners could reasonably have thought the piece was "promoting and condoning certain negative stereotypes based on sexual orientation" as Young is gay.

The regulator ruled that Moyles's show also breached its code last October by letting Russell Brand make a lewd joke about Andrew Sachs's granddaughter on air following the Manuelgate scandal.

Moyles's show is up against Nicky Campbell and Shelagh Fogarty for Radio 5 Live Breakfast; Radio Clyde's Bowie at Breakfast; Shaun Keaveny on BBC 6 Music; and Kiss 100's Breakfast with Rickie, Melvin & Charlie.
