According to The Sun, Zane, 29, is in talks with the BBC and may be given a presenting slot on BBC 6 Music.
A spokesperson for the DJ said: "Alex has done all he can at the station and given the number of projects going on he just can't commit to host the show for another year. He has built a very loyal audience and I'm sure his listeners will miss him a lot."
The Rude Tube presenter was reportedly upset by XFM's response to a song he created and broadcast called 'Code Of Love'. Afterwards, he described his bosses reaction to the track, which he co-wrote with Marc Haynes and Sunta Templeton, as "overreacting in the extreme".
However, XFM has insisted that Zane's departure was amicable, citing the star's busy schedule as the reason for his exit.
A spokesperson for the station told DS: "Alex Zane is a busy man right now and by mutual agreement he is moving on to do other things. We wish him every success for the future."
Zane's last show with the station will air on Thursday, before he heads to LA to work on a new TV series.
