The broadcaster challenged O'Brien during her Afternoon Live programme yesterday following his criticism of Frank Lampard's parenting.
According to The Mirror, Burley is one of Lampard's "close friends". Her ex-husband Steve Kutner, with whom she has a child, works as the Chelsea footballer's agent.
Responding to suggestions that she appeared biased, Burley insisted: "I pride myself on impartial journalism. My interview represented both points of view."
However, an insider claimed: "Kay will be given a dressing down."
During a debate on his LBC radio programme, O'Brien had suggested that Lampard was "weak" and "scum" for allowing his children and former partner to stay in a flat while he lived in a mansion.
Responding to the comments live on-air, Lampard explained: "I'm actually buying them a house at the moment which is of equal living standard, if not more, to mine. My kids will never ever live in inferior circumstances."
